Phase 2 Phonics fans x4 colour coded sets with simple instructions

(0)
What’s included? This download includes four A4, portrait pdf sheets to make x4 phonics fans featuring all sounds in Phase 2. Red Set 1 (page 1) Includes sounds s a t p i n Orange Set 2 (page 2) Includes sounds m d g o c k Yellow Set 3 (page 3) Includes sounds ck e b r u h Green Set 4 (page 4) Includes sounds f ff l ll ss How to use this resource As all letter sounds for Phase 2 are included here all letters can be combined onto one ring as one set. I have included ‘covers’ for each individual set incase the preference is to split the sets. A ‘cover’ for ALL sounds is included on page 4. Phonics fans can be used in a variety of situations including on-the-carpet questioning with the whole class/smaller groups where pupils can show their answers instead of speaking. Learners can use these phonics fans as a personal reference resource to cross-check the correct grapheme or orientation of individual letters if unsure when writing. Phonics fans can also be used for a variety of games and to involve learners during sound rhymes and songs. These fans are a great size to fit into a pocket or clip onto a lanyard to be accessed both inside the classroom and outdoors. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Suggestion I recently purchased some brightly coloured plastic keyrings which can be easily opened by unclipping the plastic. These could be ideal should you wish learners to access the contents of the ring (e.g. to order the sounds) and come in a variety of colours. Alternatively I have found standard metal keyrings also work well as a more permanent ‘holder’ of the contents threaded onto the keyring. I recommend that each letter is laminated before punching a hole and threading onto a keyring - this is included in the instructions on the pdf. Important message… ANY issues with these phonics fans please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes AND I am happy to create a new resource if you have an idea just let me know - I’d really love to hear from you! Feedback of these resources would be wonderful! Thank you!

Correcting Sentences, reading and writing

(0)
What’s included? This download includes four A4, portrait pdf sheets to practise reading and writing to correct x8 simple sentences. Every sentence has x3 mistakes to correct. The last two pages include the same sentences with every mistake made clear. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details Pages 1 and 2 both include x4 sentences, each in a separate box, illustrated with a simple image on the right. Both pages include the same instructions at the top - making it clear to learners that there are x3 mistakes in each sentence and what these mistakes might be. Mistakes may be spellings, capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. There is a clear space for learners to write their name at the base of both pages. The words included and spelling errors make the level of this activity aimed at learners who are learning Phase 5 phonics. Sentences include words containing Phase 5 sounds (ea, ay, a-e, aw, ph) as well as a knowledge of common high frequency words including she, you, his, are, and, said, see, their, not, with, at, the, to, do, that, can, in, loved, dad. The pictures provide clues to assist reading unfamiliar words (e.g. lions, zoo, sheep, lambs, chicken, grapes, bake) to encourage learners to use a range of reading skills when decoding these sentences if they are not at a level to read them on-sight. Pages 3 and 4 clearly show the answers in exactly the same format to encourage learners to be autonomous in checking their own learning. Each mistake is circled in pink and corrected clearly underneath to make clear to learners exactly where and what each mistake was. Important message… ANY issues with any of this please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes AND I am happy to create a new resource if you have an idea just let me know - I’d love to hear from you! Feedback of this resource would be wonderful! Thank you!

Dotted lines guide where to cut, though picture-squares could be pre-cut for those who struggle with cutting out. Resource Details… I split Phase 3 into five sets, one set per sheet. I will list the answers here in case they are not obvious(!) … Set 1 j - jeans, jigsaw (piece) v - volcano, van w - wall, window x - box, fox (learners may need help with identifying that the ‘x’ sound is at the end of these two words) y - yes, yellow z - zip, zebra Set 2 (‘zz’ is in the middle/end of words here and ‘ng’ is at the end) zz - pizza, fizz qu - queen, quarter ch - chocolate, cheese sh - shoe, shorts th - thumb, three ng - ring, wing Set 3 (two different ‘oo’ sounds here might confuse some learners) ai - train, rain ee - sheep, bee igh - night, light (bright also!) oa - goat, road oo - book, foot oo - moon, spoon Set 4 ar - star, shark or - fork, corn ur - burger, purse ow - cow, owl oi - oil, coin ear - beard, ear Set 5 (three sounds ‘ow’, ‘or’ and ‘ar’ are repeated from set 4 (using different phoneme pictures) to avoid leaving gaps and provide an opportunity to reinforce these sounds) air - airport, chair ure - picture, treasure er - ladder, fingers ow - brown, clown or - anchor, fort ar - guitar, car Recommendations I find a small, flat (shallow) container is helpful for each learner to have if a group are working on the same activity set at the same time (to stop cut-out pictures becoming muddled up). Each different set here is a different colour to help with this. However, if learners only cut out one picture at a time there shouldn’t be an issue with losing any pictures. Adding the word labels (page 2, lower right side) is optional and best provided as an extension to this activity for more able/quick learners. I feel it is best, however, to complete the ‘phoneme/grapheme matching’ first (without word labels initially) to encourage learners to think about the sounds in each word more carefully. Phase 2 matching activities (x4 sets) in same design is also available in my TES shop (also for free!) if you’d like to try those out… Special request ANY issues with any of this please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes AND I am happy to create a new resource if you have an idea just let me know - I’d love to hear from you! Feedback of this resource would be wonderful!! Thank you.

Each letter has a clear ‘starting dot’ so learners know where to place their pencil to begin and dots on top of each letter provide guidance of where exactly to write. Both versions include the letters ‘on’ or without lines. There is a clear space at the base of each sheet for learners to write their name. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s included? x2 sheets (x10 picture and x10 word cards) for CVC words focusing on words with the ‘u’ sound. Both sheets are portrait orientation, pdf format. What’s it for? This CVC phonics/reading practise activity set has been designed to be a simple, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for groups/individuals to be getting on with independently. How to use it? An adult needs to print and pre-cut the cards into rectangles (dotted guide lines make where to cut clear). The set of cards should be placed on a carpet/table top. Learners read each word by sounding out the individual phonemes, they then match this to the picture from this set. Phoneme ‘dots’ have been included under every grapheme so that learners know how many sounds to say as they read (sound out) the words. Resource Details… The words/pictures included use phonemes/graphemes from Phases 2 and 3 but mainly Phase 2. I plan to make a more ‘challenging’ set focussing more on Phase 3. I will list the words included below - Blue (Set** u**’) bun (may be confused with ‘cake’ or ‘cupcake’ though in Yorkshire (where I am from!) this is a ‘bun’!) duck/cup/truck/slug/sun/bug/plug/hut/mug Sets a/e/i/o are also available in my TES shop. Each set is a different colour to avoid cards becoming mixed and to help finding a relevant matching card easier. Special request ANY issues with any of this please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes AND I am happy to create a new resource if you have an idea just let me know - I’d love to hear from you!
